After three years as dean of Wake Forest University School of Law, Jane Aiken is planning to step away from her role as dean on July 31, a decision she said was largely influenced by the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

Aiken plans to take a research leave to serve as consulting counsel to the National Advocates for Pregnant Women, where she’ll work on issues related to the criminalization of the exercise of reproductive rights. Following her research leave, Aiken plans to return to the faculty as a university professor, according to the school.
