PAYING FOR IT – Former Jones Day partner Raymond McKeeve has been fined and ordered to pay costs of hundreds of thousands of pounds following a long-running legal battle with Ocado, Law.com International’s Krishnan Nair and Varsha Patel report. But London’s High Court ruling stopped short of a custodial sentence. McKeeve, who was at Jones Day for seven years until 2020, has been fined £25,000 and ordered to pay costs of £524,695.23 and £85,658 to Ocado, the decision stated. In the decision dealing with the costs and sanctions aspect of the case relating to the destruction of evidence dispute, Justice Adam Johnson took the view that a “custodial sentence is not warranted” and that the “imposition of a fine is an appropriate penalty.” The ruling, handed down by London’s High Court on Wednesday, noted McKeeve’s intention to apply for an order to pay the amount in installments. The decision comes a month after McKeeve was found liable for contempt of court for destroying evidence, which the court said amounted to a “sufficiently serious interference with the due administration of justice.” Online supermarket delivery service Ocado had alleged that McKeeve had ordered the destruction of documents regarding a dispute between itself and McKeeve’s client at the time, Today Development Partners, and Ocado.
