Yale Law Dean Says School No Longer Participating in ‘Profoundly Flawed’ US News Rankings

Despite taking the top spot nearly every year, Yale Law School Dean Heather K. Gerken announced Wednesday that the law school will no longer be participating in U.S. News & World Report educational rankings, calling them “profoundly flawed.”

For 30 years, U.S. News, a for-profit magazine, has ranked the educational quality of law schools across the country, with Yale Law School often earning the highest ranking, including in the 2023 Best Graduate Schools rankings. The rankings put extra pressures on schools feeling like they need to conform to fit the magazine’s preferences as the rankings are taken seriously by applicants, employers, and alumni.
