A U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruling acknowledged the “typical” challenges “Black women face in the workplace” but found that a Black nurse failed to proffer evidence that would prove the adverse employment actions taken against her were racially discriminatory.

Catrina Bragg was denied a full-time position as a registered nurse at Community Hospital, operated by Munster Medical Research Foundation. after completing a 90-day orientation program for newly licensed nurses, according to the opinion. Bragg began her orientation on Sept. 10, 2018, in Community’s acute renal care center. The program was run by experienced RNs who graded the orientees in five categories on a scale of 1-5.
