SAN JOSE, CA—Hopkins & Carley is pleased to announce that Mark V. Boennighausen and Dinah Ximena Ortiz have joined Hopkins & Carley, both as of counsel. Boennighausen joins the Litigation Department and the Trust & Estates Litigation Practice Group and Ortiz joins the Litigation Department and the IP Practice Group. Both practiced at Thoits Law immediately prior to joining Hopkins & Carley.

Boennighausen has broad civil litigation experience, with specific capabilities and successes in trusts and estate litigation, trade secret law, real estate and commercial disputes involving technology companies. He has successfully litigated high-profile cases, one of which led to establishment of the California trade secret pre-emption doctrine. In a recent real estate matter, he secured dismissal at the pleading stage of Federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act claims against an LLC and member investors, which was subsequently affirmed by the Ninth Circuit.

Ortiz is a trial-experienced litigator who has represented clients in trade secret, patent, copyright, and trademark matters involving a broad range of technologies, ranging from wind turbines to computer-aided design software. She also leverages a strong track record in commercial matters involving business torts, unfair competition, partnership disputes, breach of contract, and fraud claims.
