A Montana judge was reprimanded for his inappropriate comments about a witness in a courtroom hallway Thursday and will be suspended from his office without pay for 30 days, the Montana Supreme Court held May 2.

The Supreme Court accepted the recommendation of the Judicial Standards Commission against Montana District Judge Raymond Dayton last week after investigating an August 2022 complaint. The filing alleged that Dayton engaged in conduct violating the Canons of Judicial Ethics, and the commission determined that he had violated M. C. Jud. Cond. 1.2 for promoting confidence in the judiciary.
